New Pharmacy Contraception Service!

A new pharmacy scheme means getting the contraceptive pill is now even more easy and convenient. Pharmacies across Leeds offering the advanced contraception scheme can:

  • Start you on the pill for the first time, without you needing to get a prescription from your doctor/GP. You don’t even need to be registered with a GP surgery to use this service.
  • If you already take the pill, the pharmacy can offer repeat supplies without you having to go back to the GP or clinic where you first got your prescription.

This service is FREE, you won’t need to pay prescription charges. You will have a private and confidential consultation with a pharmacist to check that the pill is suitable for you. Your GP does not need to be told, unless you give consent. This service is available even if you are aged 13 to 16. The pharmacist will need to check that you fully understand the information and decisions involved. No one else will be told about your visit or what you talked about (including parents and carers), unless the pharmacist believes you are at serious risk of harm or abuse. In this case, they would try to discuss this with you first.
