Further information

  • You have been given this medication Doxycycline to treat your chlamydia infection.
  • As identified in your telephone consultation you have advised the clinician that you are NOT pregnant, and that there is no risk of pregnancy and you are NOT breastfeeding.
  • You have no symptoms of lower abdominal pain for women or painful testicles for men.
  • You may be experiencing a slight discharge, some stinging when you pass urine and females may experience some “spotting” between periods or after sex.
  • The medication needs to be taken twice a day ideally morning and evening with food if you wish, please take with a large glass of water and remain upright/sitting for 30mins after. (could cause an upset stomach if you lay flat)
  • Please avoid taking medication at the same time that includes zinc/iron preparations e.g. indigestion remedies/multi-vitamins with iron.
  • Do not use a sunbed/direct sunbathing as this can cause a rash. If you are out in bright sunshine please ensure you wear a long sleeved top and use sunscreen.
  • Strictly no sex on treatment this includes sex with a condom, genital to genital contact and oral sex, this must also be the rule until your partner(s) have also completed treatment.
  • Please ensure that your partner(s) are made aware of the infection so they can get access to testing this will reduce the risk of re-infection to yourself. Partners can order online if under 25/ in clinic or via GP/pharmacies.
  • Routine repeat testing is not recommended unless the nurse/Dr has advised this as tests may remain positive up to 6 weeks after testing.
  • If aged under 25 repeat Chlamydia testing is recommended 3months after the infection is treated. You should receive a text reminder for this.

  • DO NOT START THE TREATMENT UNTIL YOU HAVE DONE A TEST FOR CHLAMYDIA
